Depth and Breadth..

I have worked on hundreds of projects across several industries. The common thread running through my background:

Collaboration with a diverse team to consistently deliver results outside the box. Below are some key examples:

The Acorn Assignment

Based on my experience raising three sons, I developed this parenting program to teach parents how to enable their child’s potential to emerge and unfold in a natural way.

Delivery outside the box: A fresh look at an old subject. Communication and integration of a simple set of proven principles that parents can readily identify with and adapt to their needs. This is a work in process, currently unfolding through my blog.

Millenium Biologix Inc.

MBI was developing a medical device (ACTES: Autologous Clinical Tissue Engineering System) capable of replicating human cell tissue. I managed the design/manufacturing interface and ramp up of the disposable cassette insuring a smooth transition into production. The cassette, akin to a miniature refinery was composed of 160 parts to be assembled in a Class 10,000 clean room.

Delivery outside the box: Coordination and alignment of vendors with R & D team to achieve new and unprecedented manufacturing capabilities.

WorldHeart Corp.

WorldHeart Corp. was developing the first fully implantable artificial heart, the HeartSaver Ventricular Assist Device (HSVAD). The mechanical engineering of this device required the integration of a variety of exotic biomaterials and unique manufacturing methods. I managed a team of five engineers in the final stages of development of all mechanical systems, primary project intent was to increase manufacturability.

Delivery outside the box: 62 complex design changes were implemented within a limited period of time paving the way for manufacturing ramp up.

Racal Filter Technologies.

Act I: I was part of an intrapreneurial three-member team in pursuit of automotive cabin air filter business. My scope of responsibility including product design, manufacturing development and detailed costing. I invented two unique processes, U.S. patents were granted for both. The company’s first automotive contract was awarded by Saab, enabling RFTL to acquire business away from 3M Corp.
Delivery outside the box: A U.S. patent for a simple process that tightly integrates customer needs with manufacturing capabilities.

Act II: As team leader / program manager I coordinated the manufacturing ramp up for the Saab Scania Automotive Project. Responsibility included all aspects of product testing and approval and liaison with customer. The patent was later utilized on other automotive platforms including the Ford Villager and BMW 7 Series. RFTL was subsequently bought by 3M.

Delivery outside the box: an unproven technology was implemented on the first automotive contract on time and within budget. Note the penalty for late delivery was US$50,000 per hour.
